Mizzou Football Picked to Finish 6th in SEC
By Zach Sweet
With SEC Media Days coming to an end on Thursday, it's time to see where the media evaluates each program going into the 2024 season. It's worth noting that these polls are voted on by any member of the media who attended the event. This typically leads to a lot of bias and unseriousness in these polls, which can be seen with Vanderbilt's two first place votes.
Missouri was picked to finish 6th in SEC going into the season. This is obviously a drastic improvement from last season, where they were picked to finish 6th in their own division. An argument can be made that six is still far too low for a team with talent that Missouri has.
Among the teams picked to finish ahead of Mizzou include Georgia, Texas, Alabama, Ole Miss, and LSU. The only one of those teams that the Tigers will face in 2024 is Alabama, when they make the trip to Tuscaloosa in late October.
Missouri comes into the 2024 season with serious college football playoff aspirations, and this poll will surely be used as a bit of extra motivation. The Tigers won 11 games last season and are coming off a dominant victory over Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl. They will be led by their preseason All-SEC first team receiver, Luther Burden.
All of the Mizzou representatives at SEC Media Days touched on their motto "something to prove." Which they'll continue to embody in the upcoming season. Brady Cook made it especially clear that what happened last season is now in the past. Those who were apart of that team now have a taste of winning, and are hungry for more.
Missouri is set to kick off the season on August 29th, on a Thursday night when they host Murray State. Until then, they'll get back to work following the SEC Media Day appearance, and look to prepare for a potentially historic 2024 season.
