The Tigers' 2025 starter Beau Pribula has entered the transfer portal, leaving a huge hole on the roster for Eli Drinkwitz and company to fill. Matt Zollers, a true freshman who played a few games this season, including Missouri's defeat against Virginia in the Gator Bowl, will return to Mizzou. But while Zollers showed flashes, he didn't look quite ready to be handed the keys. So for now it looks as though the Tigers will look to find a starter through the portal.
Drinkwitz didn't waste any time on Friday, with the Tigers already reportedly in the mix for two quarterbacks, including one of the best available.
According to Matt Zenitz, Mizzou is one of the teams to watch for former Florida quarterback DJ Lagway.
The Tigers also have a visit scheduled for Kennesaw State quarterback Amari Odom according to Chris Hummer.
Tigers looking at potential new starting quarterbacks in the portal
Lagway, who is ranked as the third quarterback in the portal and the tenth player overall, has had a tumultuos career thus far. The sophomore has battled through injuries and coach instability, and remains a boom or bust option. While he's shown at times what made him a five-star recruit, he's had trouble staying on the field and limiting turnovers. He has 23 interceptions through two seasons.
Still, if Mizzou lands Lagway, he'd be a huge improvement on an offense that already boasts one of the top rushing attacks in the country.
Meanwhile, Odom is another potential direction for the Tigers, and one that would show their belief in Zollers. He has a visit scheduled for Jan. 7. If Odom is the transfer brought in, it probably means that he and Zollers will compete for the starting job. Odom threw for 2,594 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions with the Owls, but obviously the SEC is a big step up, and there's no guarantee Odom's skills as a dual-threat quarterback would translate.
