The Tigers made the hiring of offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey official on Sunday. The former Michigan coordinator will replace Kirby Moore, who took the head coaching job at Washington State.
While Mizzou already has a strong run-game, Eli Drinkwitz brought in Lindsey to revamp the Tigers anemic passing attack. So when a first-round NFL Draft pick and MVP candidate sings his praises, you listen.
Last season, before Lindsey was hired at Michigan, his former UNC quarterback Drake Maye called up then head coach Sherrone Moore to tell him how much Lindsey meant to his development.
"[Drake said] that he felt that he progressed more in his career in that year with Chip than he did at any point in his career," said Moore. "Really felt like without him he wouldn't have got the chance to go so high in the Draft. So getting that stamp of approval was really huge for me."
Mizzou hoping Lindsey can unlock the quarterback in 2026
While its unclear if Matt Zollers, who is set to start for the Tigers in the Gator Bowl, or an incoming transfer will earn the starting quarterback job, it is clear that there needs to be improvement at the position. 2025 starter Beau Pribula threw for just 1,941 yards and 11 touchdowns to nine interceptions in 10 games.
Lindsey helped developed Maye of course, but he also was involved in the development of other NFL quarterbacks Jarrett Stidham and Nick Mullens over the years. Now, he'll look to elevate whoever earns the nod for Mizzou in 2026.
