Mizzou fans received some encouraging news this weekend regarding quarterback Beau Pribula, whose season was initially feared to be over after an ankle injury sustained during Saturday's tight, eventual 17-10 loss to No. 10 Vanderbilt.
Pribula, who found a starting role at Missouri after transferring from Penn State and helped lead the Tigers to a strong 6-1 record entering the weekend, was carted off the field in the third quarter after being injured on a fourth-down run at the Vanderbilt 2-yard line.
Pribula has completed 69.6% of his passes for 210.6 yards per game with 11 touchdowns through the air, along with averaging 27.5 rushing yards and scoring five times on the ground.
Subsequent updates from 24Sports’ Matt Zenitz and sources close to the family provided a much-needed positive prognosis on Sunday: Pribula will not require surgery.

Further testing revealed a bad sprain and ligament damage, but no surgery necessary and there’s maybe even an outside chance he could return during the regular season, sources tell @CBSSports. pic.twitter.com/YiaqMvHKwk
In Pribula's absence, true freshman Matt Zollers stepped up admirably, playing the final four series of the game.
Zollers completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown.
The freshman QB successfully led the offense to a touchdown drive that tied the game at 10, and guided the team inside the Vanderbilt 40 on the final drive, which ended with a goal-line Hail Mary that was caught by Kevin Coleman but tackled just short of the end zone
At least for now, the Tigers will have to move forward with the true freshman Zollers under center. However, if they are able to make a push later in the season, the senior Pribula has a chance to make his way back into the conversation.
