Despite the college football regular season coming to an end and "bowl season" being in full swing, the sport's biggest storylines have little to do with the games currently being played. Instead, the focus for many fanbases has shifted to the transfer portal.
For the Missouri Tigers, the winter transfer portal window has been largely successful. While they’ve lost some young talent, they’ve addressed key positions of need. Head coach Eli Drinkwitz has been active in the portal, and with the support of a strong NIL fund, Mizzou has secured multiple highly touted recruits.
The transfer window for FBS football opened on Monday, Dec. 9, and will close 19 days later on Saturday, Dec. 28. However, teams like Mizzou, which play their bowl game after Dec. 28, will be granted an additional five-day window starting the day after their game.
The Tigers experienced a flurry of activity in the transfer portal, including a few unexpected departures such as Kewan Lacy, Courtney Crutchfield, Jaylen Brown, and Williams Nwaneri. However, Drinkwitz moved quickly to address these losses, filling the significant gaps within the program.
One move stood out above the rest when Mizzou secured its potential starting quarterback for 2025 in Penn State transfer Beau Pribula. The soon-to-be junior spent the past two seasons as the backup for the Nittany Lions but thrived in short-yardage packages.
Pribula was reportedly targeted by programs such as Iowa, Ole Miss, Indiana, and UCF before committing to the Tigers. The NIL package that secured his commitment was reportedly around $1.5 million, making it one of the larger deals in this transfer cycle.
It will be interesting to see if Drinkwitz makes additional moves during the final week of the transfer window, as most of the roster is beginning to take shape.
Mizzou squares off against Iowa in the Music City Bowl on Monday Dec. 30th in Nashville, TN.
