One of the aspects of what has made this Tigers team so special is their strong offense, led by Heisman candidates Beau Pribula and Ahmad Hardy.
It's not often that anyone besides the players get credit for a strong offense, an even less often to see staff that isn't the head coach receive recognition. That hasn't been the case in terms of Mizzou's offense lately.
Kirby Moore has one of the highest ceilings of any coordinator in college football right now, and that ceiling has only continued to raise throughout the season.
Moore was an amazing player in both high school and college, winning the 2A player of the year, before heading to Boise State, alongside his brother for four years, until he graduated in 2013.
He went on immediately to coaching for Idaho's wide recievers, before bouncing around to Washington and Fresno State as different positional coaches.
Following the end of the 2022-23 season, he agreed to a deal to coach the offense and quarterbacks in Columbia, under head coach Eliah Drinkwitz. He was signed to an extension of nearly $2 million less than a year later.
That extension will conclude following this season, and it isn't guranteed that Moore will return.
Moore gets the nod for some of the best offensive seasons that Tigers fans have seen in decades. Their SEC Conference-contending season that featured 12 total wins, including one in the Cotton Bowl over Ohio State University.
The 34 year-old has mentored Mizzou legends such as now-NFL impacters Brady Cook, Luther Burden III, and Cody Schrader.
In his first year in Columbia, that trio became the only unit in the country with a 3,000 yard passer, 1,000 yard reciever, and 1,500 rusher. That marked just the second time that has ever occurred in the talented SEC Conference, and the first in Tiger history.
He also saw the Fresno State offense take major strides in 2022, ending the year on a nine-game win streak, with five Bulldogs earning All-MWC honors, with three of them on the first-team.
Everywhere he goes, good offense follows. It seems as if teams are catching on to that now.
Shortly after being named the SEC Conference Coordinator of the Week early on this season, his name was seen as someone who could potentially lead the sidlines of a program next season.
Now, it has been reported that he interviewed this past weekend for the head coaching vacancy at Arkansas, who recently let veteran head coach Sam Pittman go, following a blowout loss to Notre Dame.
Ahead of their matchup versus Alabama, the Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, who has his offense ranked No. 8 in the country, called Moore "one of the best coordinators in the country."
The two worked together for several years on the sidelines of Fresno State. Grubb went onto say that "he was born to coach."
The better this offense looks, the higher the chance of their leader departing. So, the team better enjoy him while he's here, and look to run the best offense Moore has seen, as they make a playoff push, and he makes a head coaching push.
