After just one season with the Missouri Tigers, former five-star EDGE rusher Williams Nwaneri has announced he will enter the transfer portal with four years of eligibility remaining.

Just over a year ago, when coach Eli Drinkwitz learned he had landed Williams Nwaneri, it marked a historic day for Mizzouโ€™s football program, as they secured one of the nationโ€™s top recruits and kept him in his home state.

The Lee's Summit North product was ranked as the No. 8 player in the nation by the 247Sports Composite and ultimately chose Mizzou over Oklahoma.

Now, a year later, Nwaneri has informed Mizzou that he is entering the transfer portal. Whether this decision stems from a lack of money or playing time remains unclear, but Nwaneri never truly had an opportunity to showcase his skill set in Columbia. The Kansas City native appeared in just four games for the Tigers, recording two tackles.

Thanks to appearing in only four games, Nwaneri was able to preserve his redshirt for the 2024 season, allowing him to enter the transfer portal with four years of eligibility remaining.

It will be interesting to see how Drinkwitz addresses key positional needs in the coming weeks. Nwaneri's departure could potentially free up additional funds, providing Mizzou with financial flexibility they might not have otherwise had.
