Drew Lock performed well for Missouri in 2016. He finished among the top quarterbacks in the SEC, and 2017 should be no different. How is the depth at the position, though?

Every team has recruited its line of successors. Of course, we’re talking about, ‘what happens when Drew Lock leaves Mizzou?‘ While no team wants to see its starting QB go down, it’s a scenario that must be planned for.

Missouri has a developing stable of signal callers to call on, when such a circumstance arises. Who are they, and what have they accomplished since arriving at Mizzou?

Jack Lowary signed with Missouri as part of the 2016 recruiting class. In his second year with the Tigers, he continues to develop as a potential heir to the position, upon Lock’s departure, presumably, to the NFL.

While he hasn’t started any games for the Tigers, Lowary recently put his arm on display during the Missouri ‘Black and Gold’ game in April. When Lock departs, Lowary could offer Missouri solid presence in the pocket, along with a big arm.

Micah Wilson offers Missouri a dual threat at quarterback, which would be a slight upgrade over what Mizzou is used to at the position.

Depending on Wilson’s accuracy (again, only showcased during the ‘Black and Gold’ game), his mobility offers the Tigers’ offense an extra dimension.

Originally committed to Boise State, Wilson jumped at the chance to play for Missouri, when offensive coordinator Josh Huepel extended a scholarship.

According to Tod Palmer of the Kansas City Star, Wilson grew up a Mizzou fan, since his parents are also alum. While that won’t translate to wins, it plays a role toward intangibles, such as pride and leadership.

"It’s probably the only place that was able to pull me away from Boise State. Both my parents (Curtis and Shelly) went there, and also I just grew up a Mizzou fan. I grew up watching Chase Daniel, Jeremy Maclin and those guys. I always wished I could end up playing there someday."

Last, but in no way least, the Tigers also have Taylor Powell, who exhibited some nice passing and running abilities. Another commit flip to Mizzou, Powell is a pro-style quarterback.

For the immediate future, it looks like Missouri should be set at the position, but of course we will never know, until Lock moves on.

Let’s also not forget that the Tigers recently received another commit flip from James Foster, II, who was originally committed to Alabama, which is another exciting prospect for Mizzou.
