Fan Art, Thoughts On the Slow Off-Season

Behind the Art: About a week after the 2008-2009 Mizzou basketball team had finally bowed out of the NCAA Tournament to UConn and their easy-to-hate-point-guard-who-shall-not-be-named, I stumbled across a Mizzou blog on the rise called Rock M Nation.

Although exact memories are a little fuzzy to me, the post I stumbled across after a random Google search led me to a thread entirely dedicated to an internet-style celebration of the Tigers’ big win over Memphis. I immediately became hooked to the community aspect of Rock M, signed up for my account (under the handle that I now use for multiple sites, ratherfantastic), and immediately got into the spirit of something that I was a few weeks late in partaking in.

I won’t go into too much detail of my early days as a sports blog commenter (long story made shorter: I posted way too many images and GIFs without knowing the proper HTML tricks to make them less annoying, and possibly prompted a Rock M writer to make a post of image guidelines/ may have been close to being banned on Royals Review), but I will say that if my GIF phase produced one thing to be proud of, it is the MS Paint-shop you see above. It’s amazing what one can do with an hour of free time and the patience to try and make something on Paint instead of Photoshop (something that I can neither afford or illegally download).

The origin story of this masterpiece is simple: a RMN user said that the ‘J’ and ‘T’ in J.T. Tiller’s name stood for ‘Jesus Tyrannosaurus.’ Thus, the idea came to be and the subsequent picture was made.

Quick thoughts on the dog days of summer and what I plan to do until the big sports start up again after the jump…

Thoughts on the off-season: If the previous story is any indication, yes, I did decide to become the leader of Zoulogy during what may be the slowest part of the off-season. Not long after I agreed to take this position, the Baylor women’s softball team, and their obnoxious, fairly embarrassing and totally annoying dugout tomfoolery, beat Missouri in a 13 inning marathon, hitting the game-winning home run off of Chelsea Thomas (who played an incredible game, striking out a career-high 19 strikeouts and only allowing the game-winning run after throwing 192 pitches, well over 200 pitches if you count the game she pitched against Oklahoma earlier that same day) and effectively sending Tiger fans into a college sports purgatory.

With the softball team eliminated, baseball not playing in their own college world series, basketball being thoroughly finished with all coaching and recruiting-related news, and football still 89 days away, the dog days of summer, and college sports blogging, have truly begun. Heck, there’s hardly even a quarterback battle to talk about now that Tyler Gabbert is transferring.

As a guy who understands the importance to give the readers at least one post a day (and not just link dumps), I promise to stretch my brain for anything that may be worth writing about. Sure, I may have to do some silly lists or feeble attempts at humor, but I will put out as much content as I can until we get to the football season, and then after that my favorite time of the year, basketball season. Until then, bear with me, pay more attention to the Cardinals, do what you can. And if you root for the Royals like me, then I am very, very sorry. I feel your pain.

Follow your fellow blogger and/or get involved: After debating the idea of managing two Twitter accounts, I have decided to make my personal Twitter the Twitter for new Zoulogy posts as well, so please follow me @Souper_Super. Also, if you are interested in helping me with the site, please send me an email at mcsuppes@gmail.com

Thanks!
