KU’s Concern

facebooktwitterreddit

I’m not normally one to take part in immature acts like oh say, a Sunday night Facebook fight but apparently KU kids are. What started as a simple Facebook status about Mizzou being ranked in both football and basketball quickly turned into yet another bitter rival between Missou and KU. The comment read like this,

"“Mizzou… One of five schools rated top in basketball and football. Get em Tigers!”"

That simple little quote got more comments then the number of total yards KU had on Saturday. Even though the entire argument was pretty much just KU being ignorant there was one point that stuck out to me. One KU student mentioned that Mizzou was going to lose about a third of their fan base because of the move to the SEC. The basis of the student’s argument was that out of state fans aren’t going to be able to travel to games anymore because of the geography of the conference. Although I hate to agree with anyone who calls themselves a Jayhawk I couldn’t help but wonder how Mizzou’s non-Missouri fan base is reacting to the change of scenery. The closest SEC school is Arkansas which is 223 miles away. If you look at the average distances from MU to schools in the Big 12 and the SEC it is about a 94.5 mile difference. So yeah there is some merit to the argument. It is going to be a trek for our out of state fans who want to go to games but hey a new TV contract could ease their pain. Thanks for your concern though KU.

What do you think? Should Mizzou be concerned about their fan base?
