Turning Point for MU Volleyball
Coming into this season, volleyball coach Wayne Kreklow knew he had a challenging season awaiting him. His squad would now have seven freshmen on the roster. 8 of Mizzou’s top players would be underclassmen. The youngest team in 11 years.
After a slow start to the season the turning point came when Mizzou blew a two-game lead at Baylor. It was the team’s third straight five-set loss. Tribune reporter David Briggs spoke to Krelow about his feelings after the loss,
"“’It’s been a long time since I’ve felt like we lost because we simply weren’t ready to play, and that really infuriates me,’ he said afterward, noting the Tigers’ play mirrored their careless practices leading up to defeat.”"
When Krelow arrived at practice the next day he discovered a team that had found new motivation and was ready to dedicate themselves to turning their season around. Days later they proved their dedication in a decisive victory over Kansas. Since the turn around, the team hasn’t looked back. The team was able to pull out a 21-12 record and they will open the NCAA tournament Friday against future rivals Florida.
