For the second consecutive week, Michael Sam has been named the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week. Sam, from Hitchcock, Texas, had his second consecutive 3.0 sack game, and two of them came on 4th down plays in the 4th quarter. Sam had a total of five tackles on the evening.

Sam’s 3.0 sack game ties an NCAA single game high thus far into the 2013 season, and Sam is the only player to get 3.0 sacks twice this year. There have been 16 3.0 sack games with Sam as the only player to repeat.

The second honor for Sam marks the first time since 2007 that a Missouri player has won a conference honor twice in a season. The last to do it was Pig Brown, who won the honor on September 4, and October 22 of that year.

Sam’s honor marks the fourth SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week honor for Missouri this season.  Juniors Markus Golden and Kony Ealy won the honor after wins against Toledo and Indiana, respectively.

Michael Sam and the 25th ranked Tigers will head to Athens, Georgia next Saturday for a matchup against the Bulldogs at 11 a.m. central on ESPN.
