The possible hidden crown jewel of the 2014 NFL draft for the Missouri Tigers (not named Michael Sam) may have been offensive tackle Justin Britt.
He not only got picked in the second round (Way higher then any analyst had him going – or me for that matter) he also may have won a starting right tackle job on the defending world champions.
The 6’6, 325 pounder was a machine for the Tigers starting 30 games over his career in Columbia. His only hiccups were when he went down with multiple leg injuries during the 2012 season.
Was he expected to be a second round pick? Probably not. Was he expected to be a starter in the NFL as a rookie? Almost certainly not. When Britt arrived to Seattle though, the Seahawks saw something special in him and they saw a starter in him immediately.
Originally the Seahawks said that Britt would battle incumbent Michael Bowie for the starting right tackle job.
However, after Bowie showed up to camp 20 pounds overweight and got a shoulder injury in camp, the Seahawks decided to waive Bowie who ended up with the Cleveland Browns. Then, wanting Britt to have competition for the starting role, the Seahawks decided to sign 8-year veteran Eric Winston.

Britt took advantage of the opportunity. He beat out the current president of the NFLPA, for the spot on the Seahawks starting line. The Seahawks are trying to replace veteran Breno Giacomini who left the team to play for the New York Jets.
After an up and down start to his preseason against the Broncos, Britt definitely settled down against the Chargers the following week.
Head coach Pete Carroll said in a statement, “He’s making great strides to be a legitimate starter. I’ve said before it’s all in his makeup that really kind of substantiates that he’s able to do this and handle this so it’s gone great so far.”
Britt has been practicing everyday with the Seahawks first team offense and is expected to be out with them against the Packers on Thursday night. His mean streak will definitely be put to the test against Nick Perry and Clay Matthews.
