Missouri Tigers Dismiss Suspended Wide Receiver Levi Copelin

Not all Levi’s fit right.

Now, it would seem that this one didn’t fit at all.

The Missouri Tigers, via an announcement from head coach Gary Pinkel, have decided to dismiss redshirt sophomore wide receiver Levi Copelin, according to a release from the athletic program.

This comes on the heals of a late off-season suspension that was to sideline Copelin for all of 2014, after he failed an NCAA-administered drug test in July.

Highly regarded as a go-to for the offense to help fill the void left by the departed Dorial Green-Beckham, Copelin has blundered away a promising career with continuous trouble-making, both legally and team-wise.

Instead of being the No. 2 target on the offense for the Tigers this season, he will be packing his bags for good.

This Levi is a part of the effort to make Mizzou athletes collectively have the most arrests out of any SEC school in the last three years. And that precipitated his dismissal, which comes as no surprise to Mizzou nation.

Copelin, a 6-2 grinder from Broken Arrow Oklahoma, had only caught three catches as a Tiger, but he had shown a lot of potential over the summer and in practice, and many expected him to take on a big role with the team.

Twice he was arrested in 2014– once notoriously when he was with Green-Beckham and former Tiger Torey Boozer when they were handcuffed after being caught in possession of marijuana.

Green-Beckham went on to being suspected of assaulting a woman and eventually being dismissed.

  • Copelin has received the similar sentence in this latest revelation from coach Pinkel, who declined Monday at the MU press conference to answer why the decision had been made to dismiss the already suspended receiver.

One can only speculate– and it is purely speculation– that Copelin did something to further damage his reputation in the eyes of the football program and made it clear to those involved that he was not focused on cleaning up his act, but instead found his way into more trouble. We can neither confirm nor deny this is the case.

The latest Mizzou player to be condemned for his behavior, in a long line of them, Copelin will no doubt feel the harsh repercussions of his actions, and hopefully it will push others to stay out of trouble.
