Jonathan Williams III Will Leave Missouri Tigers

According to multiple reports, the Missouri Tigers basketball team’s possibly best player on the roster will bolt from the team after its disappointing season. It is expected to be announced that Jonathan Williams III, who led the team in scoring and rebounding in 2014-15, will transfer away from the program.

The 6-8 sophomore averaged 11.9 points per game and 7.1 rebounds. Williams figured to be the de facto X-factor on a team that had no real other positives to look forward to next season. This transfer means bad news for an already reeling Missouri Tigers team, as Williams was the brightest spot on a otherwise terrible underachiever in 2014.

With the move, Williams sends a dagger straight through the heart of Mizzou’s fans, who had little to look forward to in 2015.

As MU watches its division rival Kentucky make yet another Final Four, the Tigers can only hope that somehow Williams productivity can be replaced enough to keep them out of another historically bad season from both a record stand point and an offensive stand point.

The latest hit to the program is yet another in a long line of negative outcomes from the first season under Kim Anderson’s watch. The pressure will now be even heavier as fans impatience continues to grow.

No word yet on where Williams will transfer to. He was recruited heavily by Frank Haith, who now coaches at Tulsa. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Williams end up there as well.
