Missouri Tigers Fall In One Game Set To Illinois

The Missouri Tigers Baseball team will not be bragging this year.

The team fell to Illinois in the annual Braggin’ Rights game, 4-3, after a score of missed opportunities led to Mizzou’s second consecutive loss.

Missouri had ample chances to ward off the Illini in the latter half of the game, but couldn’t pull through. One of the biggest chances of the games was a sixth inning double by freshman Ryan Howard, which was followed by a hit by Trey Harris, putting two men on base with no outs. The Tigers failed to drive in a run, and Illinois’ sixth inning tally from David Kerian would ultimately remain the game winner.

Mizzou scored all three of its runs in the fifth inning, where they were able to manage five hits. But the before and after those events were a rather stagnant night, getting just 5 more hits. The Tigers left 9 men on base, and Illinois threw lights out pitching with runners in scoring position.

With the loss, the Tigers dropped just their third game away from Taylor field in Columbia so far in 2015. It was their first neutral site loss all season in 10 games.

Mizzou, which went down 2-0 early, rallied for a 3-2 lead midway through the outing. But they couldn’t put together hits after that in a uncharacteristic dry spell to close out the game.

The Tigers get back to work this weekend with a three game home series against No. 4 Florida. It will be their fourth consecutive ranked opponent.
