Michael Porter, Sr. is returning home to Columbia, after accepting an offer to assist coaching the men’s basketball team.

Less than one week after hiring new head coach Cuonzo Martin, the Missouri Tigers have added Porter, Sr. to an already talented coaching staff.

Porter, an assistant coach at the University of Washington, previously served as an assistant coach for the women’s basketball team at Mizzou.

After firing its head coach Lorenzo Romar, Washington had a vacancy which Porter could have easily filled, which may have also closed the door on the Tigers’ chances of landing his son, Michael Porter, Jr., a small forward for Nathan Hale, in Seattle.

With the elder Porter joining the Mizzou coaching staff, the door has opened for the possibility of his son playing for the Tigers in 2017-18. Early yesterday evening, Porter, Jr. was granted a withdrawal of his National Letter of Intent, by the Washington Huskies.

"“That’s home for me and they reached out to my dad with a job offer so if he accepts that, not saying I’ll definitely go there, but it’d be big.” -Michael Porter, Jr."

In an interview, Porter stated that Missouri is home for him, and while his father being offered a job on the coaching staff will play into his decision, it doesn’t guarantee that he will suit-up for the Tigers. Washington, Virginia, and Oklahoma is also in the running.

If the possibility for Missouri to acquire Porter, Jr. isn’t enough to make Tigers fans drool, then the possibility of Mizzou recruiting his younger brother Jontay Porter, a power forward, is also an exciting prospect. Jontay also rescinded his commitment from Washington, following the firing of head coach Romar.
