Missouri Tigers: Baseball, softball, and recruits! Oh, my!
It will be a busy weekend for the Missouri Tigers. Baseball continues its series at Georgia, softball hosts Arkansas, and Mizzou will play host to two prospective recruits.
The Missouri Tigers baseball team struggled in its series opener with Georgia Thursday night. While Mizzou’s defense started out strong, the offense was unable to find a rhythm to score any runs.
Missouri, which has now lost eight of its last nine, struck-out 17 times last night. Tanner Houck pitched a 3.04 era, helping Mizzou’s defense prevent the Bulldogs from taking off with the game, but it was more than the Tigers could overcome.
Missouri Tigers Basketball
Georgia’s pitching staff kept the Tigers on their heels, as the Bulldogs shut out Missouri, 3-0. The 20-game win streak that Mizzou touted to start the season, now feels like ancient history. The Tigers will get back at it tonight, as they play game two at Georgia. Game time is 6 pm, CT.
Softball vs. Arkansas
Missouri softball begins its series against the Arkansas Razorbacks this evening. The Tigers, coming off a 2-1 series against Alabama, seem to have hit their stride coming into this one.
Softball holds a record of 7-4 at home, but two of the Razorbacks’ four wins have occurred in Columbia, which includes a series win in 2013. This might be the more interesting game to see, as both teams are tied for first in the SEC, with 37 homeruns each.
The Razorbacks have lost right of their last nine games, which could put them in a place to string together a few wins, but the Tigers will do whatever they can to prevent that from happening. Game time is 6:30 pm, CT.
Blue Chips around campus
Over the weekend, Missouri will play host to two prospective blue chip recruits, Michael Porter, Jr., and Kevin Knox. At this time, Porter, Jr. signed his Letter of Intent to play basketball for the Tigers in 2017. Hopefully after visiting the Zou over the weekend, Knox will make his decision to become a True Son, and strengthen Mizzou’s recruit class.
Still no word on whether Illinois will release Jeremiah Tilmon from his Letter of Intent. Expect a rush of recruiting efforts from multiple schools to woo the five-star recruits talents to their programs, including Missouri.
If the Tigers are able to secure a commitment from Tilmon, provided he is granted his release from Illinois, and he decides to sign with the Tigers, Mizzou’s draft class will improve to No. 2 in the nation.
