Basketball continues to dominate the headlines for Missouri, as Jontay Porter announced that he will make his official visit to Columbia on Monday.

On the same day that the highly sought Kevin Knox announced that he will make his final decision as soon as spring break, Missouri fans have more cause to celebrate.

Jontay Porter, the younger brother of Michael Porter, Jr., announced this afternoon via Twitter, that he’s planning an official visit to Columbia on Monday.

From the outside, Porter’s announcement means that for now, he’s at least laying the groundwork for his future as a prospective recruit. Looking more closely though, it may also mean that he’s considering reclassification, which, sources say, is the case.

Reclassification would mean that Porter is considering foregoing his senior year, and finishing early.

If he were to reclassify and later decide that he wants to commit to Missouri, then the Tigers might have to decide what their options are, should Kevin Knox and Jeremiah Tilmon also want to commit to the program.

As it stands now, on the surface, Missouri has two scholarships remaining, and at least two prospective recruits who could fill them today, leaving Jontay Porter as the odd man out.

The best case scenario is for Jontay to complete his senior year, and commit in 2018.

My gut instinct tells me that Porter will make his visits, which he’s allowed beginning in the second semester of his junior year, and play his senior year of high school, and will announce his commitment in 2018.

The perfect storm scenario is one in which Kevin Knox and Jeremiah Tilmon commit to Mizzou, filling the Tigers’ two remaining scholarships.

If Jontay decides to reclassify and commits to Missouri, and if head coach Cuonzo Martin wants to add Jontay to the roster and offer a scholarship to him as well, then the Tigers will cross that bridge, if need be.

As we saw in March, prior to commitments from CJ Roberts and Blake Harris, two athletes on scholarship requested transfers out.
