Mizzou News: Black and Gold Review
It’s been a busy week of recruiting for both football and basketball at Missouri. Here’s a peek at a few other headlines making news across Tiger Nation.
While men’s basketball has dominated the headlines for Mizzou, the women’s program continues to thrive. Expectations are high that, for the immediate future, the women’s basketball program will remain a force to be reckoned with.
Since they keep making news, the men’s basketball program also receives a nod today, as Mizzou will host Canisius hoops graduate transfer, Kassius Robertson in the near future.
While Missouri’s athletic programs are shaping up to dominate the court, the other “big dog” vying for recognition, is hoping to dominate its four-win record from 2016 on the gridiron. According to Dave Matter of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, “Missouri led the SEC in total offense last season, with a league-best of 500.5 yards per game – good enough for 13th, nationally.”

This year, the Tigers’ offense is hoping to do more than lead the nation in stats. After all, stats are for losers. Senior wideout J’Mon Moore said, “points” need to take precedence for Mizzou this year.
Staying with the news from Faurot for just a moment, defensive tackle Rashad Brandon is making an impression on the Missouri coaching staff and his teammates, with a motor and physical strength that can’t be denied. The news of Brandon might segue into a nice storyline later this season, once four-star commit Akial Byers joins the team.
This weekend, all the spring athletic teams are busy. Baseball travels to Oxford in a series with Ole Miss, softball hosts Kentucky, while Track & Field travel to the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Finally, in less than a week, the 2017 NFL Draft will kickoff from Philadelphia, and we will see where former Tigers defensive end Charles Harris goes in the first round Thursday night.
