Missouri baseball came up big on Sunday, as they defeated South Carolina, 5-3 to win the series.

On Sunday, the Tigers stole the series from South Carolina, with a 5-3 win, which derailed the Gamecocks’ attempt at a comeback late in the game.

Winning its first series since early April against Georgia, Missouri entered Sunday’s game on a mission. Tied with South Carolina, the Tigers were able to accomplish something that escaped them for the last four weeks: Maintain a lead and win the close game.

More from Truman's Tales

Slugger Trey Harris assured coach Steve Bieser that he could power through for Mizzou, even though he has dealt with an ailing shoulder since the Tigers’ series at Vanderbilt.

According to Joe Vozzelli of the Columbia Daily Tribune, Harris is looking forward to the SEC Tournament, which he believes will breathe new life into Missouri’s newfound success.

"People are going to hate playing us. We were one hit away, one pitch away a few times. The teams we play also know that. Every swing hurt today; Coach Bieser is going to have to rip me out of the lineup. I love playing with my boys every day of the week."

Softball also received great news Sunday night. After playing one of the toughest schedules in the SEC, the Missouri softball team will travel to Oregon and play in the NCAA regionals as the No. 2 seed.

While a change doesn’t seem imminent, the conversations of the Big 12 possibly falling apart continue. There may be some legitimate theories behind the possibility; some considering that the conference does not have a network to showcase its programs through as a reason for concern.

According to Columnist Barry Tramel of The Oklahoman, Oklahoma fans are fed-up with the Big 12. Certainly, fans don’t make the administrative decisions, but maybe their voices could add to the generated interest in joining the SEC.

Supposing there is some factually based evidence behind such a theory, Saturday Down South explored the likeliness of any of these programs joining the SEC, from most to least likely.

Meanwhile, the series on former head coach Don Faurot continues at Rock M Nation. Today, we learn how Coach Faurot never stopped learning and remained an ambassador to the Mizzou program, long after his coaching years.

So far, there’s no news on basketball recruit Jeremiah Tilmon. We heard from a reliable source that there was a good chance that something could come of those recruiting efforts over the weekend, but as of Sunday night, all seemed to be quiet.

However, a tweet from No. 1 commit Michael Porter, Jr. stated that something is coming. Not sure how we should take that, nor its context, so we’ll go with face value – it could mean, literally, anything.

In the meantime, we’ll keep our eyes open and an ear to the ground. When we hear anything, so will you.

Finally, we all know that power rankings are all the rage, lately. We’ve seen quarterbacks covered, offensive schemes, defensive schemes, and many things in between. Today, let’s see where the SEC football coaches are ranked, by Gig ‘Em Gazette.

For what it’s worth, when the SEC sites were polled, we advocated as best – and objectively – as we could for Barry Odom and Missouri. Maybe next year he will find himself in the 4-7 range.

Editor’s note: Jeremiah Tilmon inked his financial aid agreement following the publication of this post, and will play basketball for Missouri in 2017.
