Missouri must have an answer to one big question before basketball season rolls around: Will Jeremiah Tilmon be academically eligible to play for the Tigers?

Prior to his signing with Missouri, concern surrounded Tilmon’s eligibility to play for Missouri due to having low grades. At this time, it seems that Tilmon should be eligible to play in 2017. At the very least, head coach Cuonzo Martin isn’t concerned about his recruit’s eligibility at this point.

That’s great news, since Missouri has been in dire need of a big man holding down center court. At 6′ 10,” Tilmon provides Mizzou greater size, speed, and the ability to cover the floor for the Tigers.

"He’s a talented basketball player and a wonderful young man. He has good size, at 6-(foot)-10 and 235 pounds, and that’s something we felt like we needed. But he also has the ability to run the floor and to block shots, so we’re very excited to have him on board."

On Thursday, Dave Matter, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, answered your questions. There are three pages worth, and some very good ones throughout.

More from Truman's Tales

When asked if any of this year’s commits, apart from Michael Porter, Jr. are expected to be one-and-done, Matter doesn’t think that will be the case.

"None of them are one-and-done prospects. Jontay Porter might have the most upside because he’s 6-11 and has stretch-4 potential. Tilmon is more of a classic post player, and unless you’re a dominant player at that position, you need to develop other skills to make it in the NBA in today’s game. He’ll have to develop his offensive game to become an NBA prospect. Harris and Roberts are good college prospects but I don’t think anyone believes they’ll be in the NBA quickly. Three/four-year players."

Baseball was back in action Thursday night, on the road in Knoxville. Missouri gave a solid performance, as the Tigers shut-out the Volunteers, 5-0. Head coach Steve Bieser mentioned his team’s relaxed play later in the game.

"We had such a good batting practice, and everyone was really locked in, so we got just a little complacent there early in the game. … Then the big blow by Matt Berler kind of relaxed us, and we started having some even better at-bats after that"

TJ Sikkemma pitched a complete game, while junior first baseman Matt Berler hit a grand slam homer to put Tennessee’s chances out of reach. Missouri will resume action at 5:00 PM Eastern time, this evening.

Softball also opens-up tonight at 8:00 against Wisconsin. If the Tigers aren’t able to muster a win, then their odds of advancing decreases significantly. The good news, however, is post-season events are double elimination.

Wisconsin finished sixth in the Big Ten, while Missouri holds a 2-8 record over its last 10 games. Head coach Ehren Earleywine is excited with his team’s renewed opportunity to compete in the tournament.

Finally, another mock draft has Missouri pitcher Tanner Houck projected to find a home in the Motor City. Being a Tigers fan, I’d love to see Houck in the town that made Ty Cobb famous – or was it the other way around?
