Recruiting has been a boon for Missouri basketball this year. With arguably the top-5 recruiting class in the nation, Mizzou is ready for a breakout season.

Football has, once again, taken a back seat to basketball. That’s okay, as more big news hit Columbia Monday evening, in the form of a commitment from 2018 four-star recruit, Jontay Porter.

While the news didn’t come as a surprise, it was nice to bring some closure to questions about

if

when

– we’re still not sure when, but we know he’s committed.

My hunch is that we will probably see Porter sooner, rather than later. I’ll tuck that away, for now.

On the same front, one ESPN analyst has Missouri pegged to have a breakout season in 2017. Many of us agree with that analysis – welcome to “Fandom 101.”

More from Truman's Tales

Missouri’s 2017 class of recruits is jaw-dropping. While the Duke, Carolina, and Kentucky fanbases chuckle at our exuberance, this is a big deal to us! We love our Tigers, and the fact that they will hit the ground running. Kentucky may have Kevin Knox, but Missouri has everyone else.

This afternoon, Texas A&M will defend its title, as the Aggies take on Missouri baseball, which has lined-up a nice string of wins, recently.

Missouri, which was swept by “A&M” in late April, will try to avenge its embarrassing loss. Game time is at 1:00 PM; the game can be heard on KTGR, and can be seen on SEC Network.

A little more news from the realm of baseball: The SEC named LHP TJ Sikkema to its Freshman All-SEC Team.

Finally, some rumblings from Faurot Field – when Missouri State opens against Mizzou, head coach Barry Odom expects State head coach, Dave Steckel will be sneaky in his approach.

"You look at if there is any carryover on what you think he likes to do, and he’s just sneaky enough that he is going to do something different. I understand that, so we have to be prepared for a lot of things."

I am probably as intrigued about the 2017 football season, as I am excited about the 2017-18 basketball season.
