Missouri is in its second season under head coach Barry Odom. While the Tigers’ record was downright awful in his first season, they have a great chance to turn it around in 2017.

Kicking off its 2017 season, Missouri has a most favorable schedule, which should give the Tigers a handful of “easy” wins. While wins are never guaranteed, it’s still nice to pencil them in, especially for a team that is starving for a bowl appearance.

There’s also good news and bad news. The good news is Missouri will play two football games on national TV. The bad news is if Mizzou is better than it was a year ago, there will only be two nationally televised games.

Competing with programs like Alabama, LSU, and Ohio State for air time, it will be tough for the Tigers to crack more than two nationally televised games this year.

More from Truman's Tales

Mizzou’s two televised opponents will be South Carolina (Sept. 9) and Arkansas (Nov. 24). How will the Tigers do in their prime time appearances? I think they’ll split the games with a loss to the Gamecocks, and another win over the Razorbacks.

On Monday, Mizzou Track & Field junior Karissa Schweizer, was named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA for short) Midwest Region Women’s Track Athlete of the Year.

Schweizer will compete in the NCAA Track & Field Championships this week in Eugene, Ore., where she will attempt to capture her third national title.

Baseball and softball had promising hopes before their respective seasons began. Throughout the season, both teams struggled against tough competition. Baseball recently bowed-out of the post season – softball wasn’t far behind.

Missouri softball finished the season with an almost even, but a winning record of 29-28. Hopefully, next year bodes better for softball, as many talented athletes return for head coach Ehren Earleywine.
