The senior and defending national champion finished 11th in nationals this season with a time of 19:47.47. Here is just a sample of the awards she has won during her career:
- 2017 NCAA Outdoor National Champion (5000m Run)
- 2017 NCAA Indoor National Champion (5000m Run)
- 2016 NCAA Cross Country National Champion
- 2017 NCAA Outdoor First-Team All-American (5000m Run – 1st)
- 2017 NCAA Indoor First-Team All-American (5000m Run – 1st)
- 2017 NCAA Indoor First Team All-American (3000m Run – 2nd)
- 2016 NCAA Outdoor First Team All-American (5000m Run – 3rd)
- 2017 NCAA Championships qualifier (5000m Run)
- 2017 NCAA West Preliminary qualifier (5000m Run)
Schweitzer set her personal record at the national championship the year before, in the 6000m run with a time of 19:41.6, the winning time. She was the first national champion in cross country in program history. Schweitzer overcame four runners in the last 400 meters of the race to emerge as champion. The Urbandale, IA native has certainly left her mark on the program.
Though she finished in the top-10 four times in high school, she never managed to win a state championship in Iowa during her high school years. But I’m sure leaving as the best runner in Mizzou program history makes up for it.
