Mizzou basketball battles old Big 12 rival Oklahoma
Mizzou basketball takes on Oklahoma in the consolation game of the Hall of Fame Classic at the Sprint Center.
The Mizzou basketball team plays for third place tonight in the Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City. Mizzou’s opponent is another team coming off a season in which it made the NCAA Tournament.
The Oklahoma Sooners received their first loss of the season Monday night against Stanford. Like Missouri, Oklahoma got off to a slow start and never could recover. Today’s game could have been for the championship, but instead they are going up against each other in the first of two games at the Sprint Center.
Here’s a look at today’s matchup:

Last year’s record: Oklahoma 20-14; Mizzou basketball: 15-17
Mizzou basketball fell behind 15-2 in the first 4 minutes, 30 seconds of Monday’s game against Butler. Oklahoma fell behind 17-2 after the first 5:30 in its game against Stanford. Perhaps the team that comes out ahead after the first few minutes tonight will win this game.
The Sooners lost 73-54 to the Cardinal. The reason neither team could recover much ground on Day 1 of the classic is because neither team could knock down outside shots. Oklahoma only hit four 3-pointers while the Tigers made just two. That could be a focal point as to which team wins today.
Kristian Doolittle is the Sooners best all-around player. The forward is averaging 14 points a game to go with nearly 10 rebounds. Mizzou’s Jeremiah Tilmon is going to have a good matchup on the glass in this one.
Tilmon will need to do more for the Tigers have a shot. He didn’t score against Butler and got into foul trouble again. Mizzou will need him. The Tigers also will need guard Mark Smith to shoot better. Dru Smith played well against Butler, leading the team with 19 points. Mark Smith only scored four points.
