Here are the top 10 Missouri football games of the decade
The next four
Missouri 38, No. 11 Florida 17, Nov. 3, 2018
It was Drew Locks’ greatest moment as a heartbroken Missouri team thwarted Florida in the Swamp. Lock picked apart the Florida defense for 250 yards and three TDs. A week earlier, both teams missed opportunities to hang on to SEC East hopes, but it was Missouri which showed the season wasn’t quite over, taking down the Gators with ease. Mizzou eventually moved back into the rankings for the first time in three years.
No. 25 Missouri 41, No. 7 Georgia 26, Oct. 12, 2013
Fresh off what many presumed as an upset over Vanderbilt, a barely-ranked Mizzou team smoked the top SEC East team on the road. Georgia took the early lead, but a big second half gave the Tigers a 28-10 lead at halftime, highlighted by a Michael Sam fumble return off a Shane Ray sack. In the second half, Mizzou ended any hopes of a comeback with a trick play from WR Bud Sasser, who hit fellow wide-out L’Damian Washington for a 40-yard TD strike, just minutes after QB James Franklin left the game with shoulder injury. Mizzou would go on to finish as a top-five team in the rankings.
No. 5 Missouri 28, No. 21 Texas A&M 21, Dec. 1, 2013
Mizzou held off a potent Johnny Manziel and Texas A&M team to give the Tigers a trip to Atlanta and an SEC East crown. Had the Tigers been upset, South Carolina would have moved on. Instead, it was the Tigers of Columbia. Mizzou’s Henry Josey dusted off a 57-yard scamper with 3:34 left to play to finish off the Aggies at Faurot Field. Josey’s dash still is remembered as one of the best runs in school history, and it provided a landmark moment for the junior who fought back from a brutal injury just two years earlier. It also should the country Missouri football belonged in the SEC and gave the Tigers a final-four shot at a national championship.
No. 8 Missouri 41, No. 13 Oklahoma State 31, Jan. 4, 2014
After falling short of the national title game, the Tigers went to Arlington, Texas, to play former Big 12 foe Oklahoma State. It was a seesaw battle that saw a 38-point fourth quarter. Henry Josey tallied three rushing TDs for the Tigers, who would close out the Cowboys in dramatic fashion. Michael Sam recorded a strip sack and Shane Ray recovered the ball and took it 73 yards for the touchdown return. Oklahoma State was looking to take the lead in the final minutes of the contest and was in position to at the very least try to tie the game, but it wouldn’t be. Mizzou was crowned Cotton Bowl champions.
