Missouri hoops opens up conference at home in big-time contest against Tennessee.

The Missouri hoops team dropped its first conference game of the season on the road to No. 17 Kentucky 71-59.

Mizzou doesn’t have much time to think about that loss as the Tigers are set to play their second conference game today against Tennessee. Like the Tigers, the Volunteers dropped their conference opener, Saturday to LSU 78-64. The 0-1 teams are desperate to grab momentum back on their side, and it should make for an important and exciting SEC home opener in CoMo.

Here’s a look at today’s game:

Records: Tennessee 8-5 (0-1); Missouri 8-5 (0-1)

Where: Mizzou Arena

Time: 6 p.m.

Other conference games today: Florida at South Carolina; No. 14 Kentucky at Georgia; Ole Miss at Texas A&M.

Both teams enter today with identical records, both overall and in conference, and the winner today obviously avoids an 0-2 start to SEC play. That is added motivation for these teams to leave it all on the court.

For Tennessee, the Volunteers were led by guards Lamonte Turner and Jordan Bowden, both average just more than 12 points a game. But Tennessee might have a new go-to player after one game. Forward Santiago Vescovi stepped in against LSU and started his first game for the Volunteers. The freshman point guard dropped 18 points, six rebounds and four assists in the loss. The debut was a huge spark, but not enough to take down the Tigers. Now he’ll have a chance to do the same to this Tigers team with hopes of grabbing the win.
