Summer of Swat: Summer is heating up, are Missouri baseball players keeping up?
By Kyle Jones
Drew Garrett- State College Spikes
Drew Garrett has been a menace to Draft League batters this season. He’s got 18 strikeouts so far, but what’s really telling his how batters fare against him.
Through 13 innings pitched, batters are hitting .140 against Garrett. He might not have the high strikeout numbers of Garrett Rice, but batters simply aren’t getting on against Drew Garrett.
The Spikes, however, aren’t faring so well, sitting second to last with a 15-21 record.
Ben Pedersen-Duluth Huskies
Batters are continuing to feast on Pedersen’s deliveries. So far he has allowed 18 earned runs on 31 hits through 26 innings pitched.
Batters hit .307 against Pedersen, and he has issued 12 walks. I’m sure he’s a kind and hard-working guy, but he has become a liability.
Missouri fans better hope that Pedersen finds his stuff, or any stuff for that matter, before the upcoming season.
Duluth finished the first half of the season 12-22, and have started the second half 1-1.
Kyle Potthoff-Cape Catfish
Potthoff has gotten a lot of guys to strike out this summer, 25, in fact. But that’s where the good news ends.
Those 25 Ks are overshadowed by 20 walks, 42 hits (10 more than last week), and 21 earned runs.
Strikeouts are great, and they’re fun to watch, but they don’t matter if you get spanked for 7 runs in the process.
Despite Potthoff’s subpar pitching, Cape still has one of the better records in the league, only a half game behind the O’Fallon Hoots for the lead in the West-Prairie Land Division.Jul
