Mizzou offensive coordinator Kirby Moore was hired as the head coach at Washington State on Thursday, kicking off the Tigers' search for his replacement.

There's already been numerous names thrown around for potential candidates. From splash hires like Bobby Petrino, to fast-rising coordinators like Garrett Riley, all the way over to some possible internal hires, there's been no shortage of options.

One other name thrown out was former Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel. Daniel, who played four seasons for the Tigers, was also a 14- year NFL veteran before retiring in 2023 to join the broadcasting world. Now, there are fans calling for him to be the next offensive coordinator at Mizzou, and Daniel noticed.

Would Daniel make sense as the OC for Eli Drinkwitz and Mizzou?

While Daniel had a storied career for the Tigers, throwing for over 12,000 yards and 100 touchdowns, he's never coached in any capacity since. So although he has significant name recognition, there's not much evidence he would be up to the challenge of becoming OC--or even want it for that matter despite his googley-eyed reaction.

A good rule of thumb when considering former players and fan favorites is asking 'Would this person be up for thie job without their connection to the university?' The answer for Daniel, is probably 'no.' He played at the highest level of football, sure, but would Drinkwitz really give the keys to someone who had no coaching experience prior? It would be hard to see, considering the stakes for Missouri in the bloodthirsty SEC.

It's fun to see that Daniel has taken note of some fans' desire to see him back with the Tigers, but realistically he doesn't seem like a legitimate choice for the job. Maybe an internal coach gets promoted to OC and opens up a spot at a position group for Daniel though. Who knows?
