No. 24 Mizzou Volleyball to face Texas State in the first round of the NCAA Dallas Regional
After a 20-8 season, the second under head coach Dawn Sullivan, the No. 24 Missouri Tigers received an at-large bid and are a 7-seed in the 2024 NCAA Division I volleyball tournament, the NCAA announced Sunday.
The Tigers will face off against Texas State (22-8, 13-3 Sun Belt) on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 4 p.m. as part of the bracket hosted by SMU in Dallas.
In Sullivanâs first season with the Tigers, they won a first-round match, beating Delaware in straight sets, before falling to top-seeded Nebraska in the next round.
The other side of the bracket features host team No. 2 SMU (24-7, 16-4 AAC) and Wichita State (18-13, 10-6 American), who will face off at 7 p.m. The winner will play the winner of Mizzouâs matchup.
For a team in Missouri, Texas has produced more Tigers than any other state, with five players coming from there. The closest of the five are Janet deMarrais and Grace Sweeney, who both hail from suburbs 30 minutes outside of the city.
The first and second rounds will be played Dec. 5-7 at various locations. The winners will advance to the regionals, which will be held at four sites to be named later on Dec. 8. Following those matches, the winning teams will head to the University of Louisville for the semifinals and finals.
