On Sunday evening, the San Francisco 49ers played their second preseason game. In both contests, they've chosen not to play any of their "ones," with players like Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle all sitting out. This approach has opened up opportunities for other players to earn a spot on the roster, and former Missouri running back Cody Schrader is one of those guys.

With the regular season just three weeks away, teams are starting to get a clearer picture of who will make the 53-man roster. Schrader is currently on the bubble, and despite making a start in last night’s preseason game, it appears he might currently be on the outside looking in.

In his start last night, Schrader ran the ball seven times for a total of 15 yards. For the second straight game, he struggled to make a significant impact, but on a more positive note, he did see a target in the red zone. Schrader split carries evenly with fellow running back Matt Breida, who appears to be his competition for one of the final roster spots.

With Elijah Mitchell and Jordan Mason banged up with injuries, Schrader could have an opportunity to start the year on the 53-man roster. The fact that Schrader is still in the mix is impressive, considering he began his NFL journey as an undrafted free agent, signing a UDFA contract with San Francisco.

The 49ers play their final preseason game on Friday, August 23rd, against the Las Vegas Raiders. This will give Schrader one last opportunity to impress. For all the Missouri Tigers fans rooting for Schrader to make the roster, Friday will be "must-watch" television.
