Every Missouri basketball fan wishes they could erase the 2023-2024 season from their mind, but unfortunately, it will always be there. No one will forget that season as the Tigers went 8-24 in the regular season and 0-18 in SEC play.

Even with the miserable season, the Tigers have only lost three players to the transfer portal and they have brought in three guys to make up for it. However, the news of the fourth transfer is big.

Mark Mitchell out of Duke decided to enter his name into the transfer portal after the Blue Devils' tough loss to NC State in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. It seems as though Mitchell was focused on returning to his home state of Kansas to play for Jerome Tang and the Kansas State Wildcats, but it seems he had other plans.

Mitchell will not be going to his home state, but he is from Kansas City, which is split with the state of his new school. On his Instagram, Mitchell announced he is heading to Columbia, Missouri to play for Dennis Gates to play for the Tigers next season.

This is yet another big pickup for Gates as he had loaded up this season in the transfer portal. Mitchell comes in as a small forward who averaged 11.6 points per game, 1.1 assists, and 6.0 rebounds. He also shot 54% from the floor and 27.5% from beyond the arc.

Mitchell rounds out a four-person transfer portal class right now as the Tigers also added a power forward and two point guards this offseason. Coming out of high school, Mitchell was a 5-star athlete and committed to the bluest of blue bloods Duke.

Now at Missouri, Mitchell will most likely not have to compete at all for minutes and could become one of the best players on the roster. This is a big pick up for Gates after such a horrible season. The Tigers could see a lot fo change next season, may make it to the tournament, but probably not far, but anything is a step up from this past year.
