Spring football has finally begun in Columbia Missouri. The Tigers took the field for the first time since January today as they began their 15-spring practice session. Spring football will conclude at Mizzou on March 16 with the Black and Gold Spring game at 1:00 p.m. CT at Memorial Stadium, admission is free to all.

Head coach Eliah Drinkwitz spoke with the media on Monday, February 26 before the start of practices. Drinkwitz talked about how the team is looking forward and not dwelling on the past of this last season.

The Tigers went 11-2 in 2023 and capped off a great season with a 14-3 win over No. 7 Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl. Mizzou took a big jump in 2023 after going 6-7 the year before. The Tigers have lost a number of guys to the NFL Draft and some to the transfer portal, but Drinkwitz has built a good foundation in Columbia and I believe he will be able to continue to build on it.

The biggest player returning for the 2024 season will be quarterback Brady Cook. Cook threw for over 3,300 yards in 2023 with 21 touchdowns and only five interceptions. He also rushed for 319 yards and eight touchdowns. Cook is an integral part of this offense and even though he has lost some offensive lineman and his running back Cody Schrader, Cook should continue to take steps forward this next season.

Coach Drinkwits has made his intentions known that anyone can win any job in spring, it is up to the players to fight for it. With multiple positions open, Drinwitz wants to see guys step up and show how hungry they are to play with the Tiger emblem on their uniform every single game.
